The "which AI is better?" debate is mostly noise. The real answer is always "it depends on the task." So I decided to run a proper comparison across 10 common business writing scenarios.

The Test

Same prompt, same context, same evaluation criteria. I tested: email drafts, proposals, social posts, blog intros, ad copy, meeting summaries, client updates, FAQ responses, landing page copy, and executive briefings.

The Results (Simplified)

Claude was stronger for: nuanced writing, longer-form content, maintaining voice consistency, and tasks requiring careful reasoning. It also handled complex instructions better.

GPT-4o was stronger for: short-form punchy copy, creative variations, speed of generation, and tasks where formatting mattered more than depth.

The real finding: The prompt quality mattered more than the model choice in 7 out of 10 tasks. Invest in your prompts, not in model loyalty.

Key Takeaways

  • 1Use Claude for long-form, nuanced, voice-consistent writing
  • 2Use GPT-4o for short-form, punchy, variation-heavy content
  • 3Prompt quality outweighs model choice in most business writing tasks
